Coach Gregg on the sideline with his players during a game

On the sideline — where Snap Count started.

Our Story

Coach Gregg · Founder

I didn't set out to build an app. I set out to help coach my son's youth football team.

A few years ago, one of the coaches on my son's team asked if I'd help out on the sideline. I said yes the way most of us do — not really knowing what I was signing up for. Somewhere along the way, one of my jobs became tracking plays and snap counts, making sure we knew who had been in the game and who hadn't.

What I didn't expect was how much I'd fall in love with the coaching itself. Watching a kid who was nervous in August turn into a kid who's calling out assignments by October — that part got me. Helping develop these kids, not just as players but as teammates, became the best part of my week.

But the snap counting? That part was hard. Really hard. Trying to track who played offense, who played defense, who was still owed reps, all by hand, on a clipboard, in the middle of a live game — it's easy to get it wrong, and it's easy for a kid to get overlooked by accident. I never wanted a parent to ask "did my son play enough?" and not have a straight, honest answer.

So I started building something to help me keep track of it. Not a company, not a product pitch — just a tool I needed on my own sideline, for my own team, so the numbers would be right and every kid's playing time would be visible and fair.

It worked well enough for us that I started thinking other coaches could probably use it too. That's the whole reason Snap Count exists: a coach built it, for coaches, because the clipboard math wasn't cutting it anymore.

One thing I want to be upfront about: this isn't priced to make money off volunteer coaches. Standard, Pro, and All-Star are priced to cover what it actually costs to keep the app running and supported — hosting, upkeep, the occasional new feature — not to turn a profit off people already spending their own time and gas money on a kids' team. If you're doing this on a Saturday morning for free, the last thing I want is for this to feel like one more bill.

I'm still that same guy on the sideline. I just also happen to be the guy who built this. If you're a coach and this is useful to you, I'm glad. That was the whole point.
