Getting Started
Signing in
Create an account at the Snap Count website — no promo code required, you can create an account and choose a paid plan right away. If a coach gave you a promo code, entering it at signup unlocks every tier free for 90 days so you can try it before paying. Once you're signed in on a device, the app itself is unlocked there — you don't need to sign in again every time you open it.
The single most important thing to know: your roster, lineups, and game history are saved only on the device you enter them on. They live in that device's browser storage, not on Snap Count's servers.
This keeps your team's information private, but it also means:
Build your full roster on whichever device you'll actually use on game day (usually a phone or tablet on the sideline).
If you want that data on a second device, or you're switching to a new phone or tablet, you need to manually transfer it yourself using the backup feature — see Utility (Backup & Restore) below. There's no automatic syncing between devices.
Clearing your browser's data, or uninstalling and reinstalling in some browsers, can erase this information. Back up regularly.
Your account and subscription (who you are, which plan you're on) is different from this — that part does work from any device, since it's tied to your sign-in, not to local storage.
Adding Snap Count to your home screen
Since your roster lives on one device, it's worth making that device's shortcut as close to a real app as possible — a home-screen icon you tap straight into on the sideline, instead of hunting through browser tabs or bookmarks mid-game.
iPhone or iPad (Safari): open the site, tap the Share icon (the square with an arrow pointing up) in the toolbar, scroll down, and tap "Add to Home Screen."
Android (Chrome): open the site, tap the ⋮ menu in the top right, then tap "Add to Home screen" (sometimes shown as "Install app").
Do this on the same device you built your roster on. Once added, it opens full-screen with no browser bar, just like any other app icon.
No wifi or signal at the field? Open Snap Count once while you still have wifi or signal, then leave it open. Once it's loaded, it will keep working without service — but if you close it or swipe it away, it will NOT work again until you're back on wifi or signal. It's fine to minimize it or switch to another app for a moment; just don't fully close it out while you're using it with no service.
The main screens
Reached from the bar at the top of the app: Field (what you use live, during a game), Stats, Games, Roster, Substitutions (Pro and All-Star only), and Utility. Your plan (current tier) and this Help Center are both reached from inside Utility.
The Field Screen
This is your main screen during a game — it shows who's currently on the field and lets you log plays and make substitutions.
Unit tabs
Across the top: Offense / Defense / Punt / FG & EP / Out. Tap one to switch which lineup you're tracking. Each has its own on-field group and its own snap counts.
Next to the tabs: Edit Lineup and Manage Lineups (Offense/Defense), or Reset to starters (Punt/FG & EP). A status chip also shows whether your data is saved ("Saved on this device," "Backed up," "Saving…").
For Offense and Defense, a second row of buttons lets you instantly swap in a whole saved lineup ("Starting Lineup," "Second String," etc.) without touching your snap counts.
Player cards
The top section shows players currently on the field. Each card shows jersey number, name, snap count, and (Pro and All-Star) position tags. A small * in the corner of a card (All-Star only) means that player has designated backups assigned — see The Substitutions Screen below.
Making substitutions — three different buttons, three different things
Swap (all tiers): tap any player on the field to send him out, then any player on the bench to bring him in.
Position (Pro and All-Star): same as Swap, but the bench is filtered to only players tagged at that position.
Sub (All-Star only): tap a player on the field, and the bench narrows to only the backups you specifically assigned to him (set up on the Substitutions screen).
All three use the same flow: tap players to mark them in/out, then tap Confirm swap (it's disabled until the headcount is legal — you can't end up with the wrong number of players on the field).
Recording plays
Record Play logs one snap for everyone currently on the field in this unit.
Record Run / Record Pass (All-Star, Offense only) are optional — use them instead of "Record Play" to also track whether the play was a run or a pass, which feeds the Team Stats breakdown. A plain "Record Play" still counts, just as "uncategorized."
Undo removes the most recently recorded play if you tap the wrong button.
Unavailable (Out)
Tap the Out tab to mark a player unavailable for the current game (he's pulled from every lineup automatically) or bring him back in. This only applies to the current game — it does not carry over to your next game unless you check "still unavailable" when you create that next game (see The Games Screen below).
Editing lineups — three similar-looking options, different scopes
Edit Lineup: changes who's on the field right now, for today's game only.
Manage Lineups → Edit players: changes a saved lineup (like "Second String") so it's updated everywhere you load it in the future — it does not change today's field unless you then load that lineup.
Tapping a named lineup button in the second row: loads that saved lineup onto the field immediately.
Watch for the hint text on screen ("Currently matches '…'") — it tells you which of these you're actually doing.
The Stats Screen
Scope: "This Game" (all plans), "Season" and "Week by week" (Pro and All-Star).
Player table: snap counts and percentages per player. Tap any column header to sort by it; tap again to reverse. A player's snaps are shown in amber if they fall below your "Minimum snaps" setting — a quick way to check everyone's getting fair playing time. Players marked unavailable for a game are shown struck through.
Two settings on this screen actually change how the app behaves everywhere, not just how this screen looks:
Minimum snaps: the threshold used for the amber playing-time flag.
Players on field: your league's lineup size (7, 9, 11, etc.) — this controls how many players "Edit Lineup" and "Swap" require throughout the app.
Team Stats (All-Star only): toggle from the player table to a team-wide view — run plays vs. pass plays, offensive vs. defensive plays, and a season win/loss record. Team Stats has the same "This Game / Week by week / Season" scope as the player table.
Week by week (Pro and All-Star): one row or column per game, so you can see trends over the season at a glance.
Copy / Download CSV (Pro and All-Star): export the current table to paste into a spreadsheet or email to parents.
One thing that can look confusing: punt and field-goal/extra-point snaps are also counted as offensive snaps (since it's usually the same personnel), so a player's "offense" number can be a little higher than the number of offensive plays you called — that's expected, not a bug.
The Roster Screen
+ Add player adds a new blank entry at the top of the list — fill in jersey number, first name, and last name (initials or nicknames are fine, whatever you'll recognize on the sideline).
Each player can be edited inline at any time. Remove deletes a player permanently, including all of his recorded snap counts from every past game — you'll be asked to confirm first.
The list re-sorts by jersey number when you add a new player or leave the screen, but won't jump around while you're actively typing.
The Substitutions Screen Pro and All-Star
This screen has its own two tabs at the top — Positions and Player Subs. They look similar to the Offense/Defense tabs on the Field screen, but they're unrelated; don't confuse the two.
Positions (Pro and All-Star): check boxes to tag each player at the positions he plays (QB, RB, OL, DL, CB, K, etc.). This doesn't change who's on the field by itself — it just powers the "Position" filter when you're making a substitution on the Field screen.
Player Subs (All-Star only, easy to miss — it's the second tab): for each player, tap "Edit subs" to check off which other players are his designated backups. Checking a box works both ways automatically — if you set Player 5 as a backup for Player 2, Player 2 is automatically set as a backup for Player 5 too. This list is what the Sub button on the Field screen uses to narrow the bench.
This screen always opens back to the Positions tab, even if you were last on Player Subs — so if you don't see what you expect, check you're on the right tab.
The Games Screen
+ New game: name it, add the opponent, and if your last game had players marked unavailable, you'll see a checkbox to carry them forward as still unavailable — otherwise every game starts with everyone available.
Each game in the list shows:
W / L buttons — tap to record the result (tap again to clear it). This only affects the season win/loss record (All-Star), not snap-count math.
Make active / Active badge — only one game can be "active" (recording) at a time; this is how you switch which game the Field screen is tracking.
Edit — change the name, date, opponent, or final score.
Delete — permanently removes the game and every snap it recorded. You'll be asked to confirm.
Snap counts stay tied to the game they were recorded in; the Stats screen is what totals them up across a season.
Utility (Backup & Restore)
Open this from the Utility button in the top bar. Since your data lives only on this device (see Getting Started), this is how you protect it, move it elsewhere, manage your teams, and check that everything's working. It's also home to your Plan and this Help Center.
Plan: shows your current tier and lets you preview a lower one — see Plans & Account Status below.
Manage Teams: rename a team, switch which team is active, add another team (up to your plan's limit — 1 for Standard, 2 for Pro, 3 for All-Star), or delete one (you can't delete your only remaining team).
Run Self-Check: a built-in diagnostic that verifies your data is actually saving correctly on this device, checks your lineups for problems, and reports whether the app is running as an installed icon or in a browser tab. Worth running if anything seems off, or just to double-check before a big game.
Save Backup Now: downloads a file with all your teams on this device (not just the one you're currently viewing). Do this after you finish building your roster, and again after every game.
Restore From Backup File: loads a backup file back in, after you confirm — this overwrites what's currently on the device, so only do this if you mean to replace your current data. This is also how you move your data to a new or second device: save a backup on the old device, then restore it on the new one.
Help: opens this same guide right on the sideline, without needing to leave the app.
Plans & Account Status
Important: the "Plan" button inside the app's Utility menu is not where you buy or upgrade your plan. It only lets you preview a lower tier than what you've actually paid for — useful for seeing what a cheaper plan looks like, but it can never unlock a tier you haven't purchased, and it doesn't touch your saved data. Actual purchases and upgrades happen on the Snap Count website, under Pricing.

Account status
Shown automatically if something needs your attention:
Active: everything is working normally.
Grace (amber banner): your plan just lapsed, within the last 30 days. You keep full access during this window — it's a reminder to renew, not a lockout.
Locked: more than 30 days have passed since your plan lapsed, or you never chose a plan. You'll need to renew or choose a plan on the Pricing page to get back in.
Quick Reference: Things That Look Similar But Aren't
"Plan" button vs. Pricing page: the in-app Plan button previews a lower tier; only the website's Pricing page actually changes what you've paid for.
Swap vs. Position vs. Sub: Swap shows the whole bench, Position filters by position tag, Sub filters to one player's specific assigned backups.
Edit Lineup vs. Manage Lineups vs. a named-lineup button: Edit Lineup changes today's field only; Manage Lineups changes a saved lineup for future use; a named-lineup button loads a saved lineup onto the field right now.
Record Play vs. Record Run vs. Record Pass: all three log one offensive snap; Run/Pass additionally categorize it for the Team Stats breakdown (All-Star only).
The Substitutions screen's Positions/Player Subs tabs vs. the Field screen's Offense/Defense/Punt/FG & EP tabs: visually similar, completely unrelated — they're on different screens and control different things.
The * icon on a player card: means that player has designated backups assigned (All-Star). It has no text label in the app itself.
Unavailable is per-game, not permanent: a player marked out doesn't stay out next game unless you check the carry-forward box when creating that next game.
Troubleshooting & FAQ
Is my data safe?
It's saved automatically as you go, on the device you're using. Run Self-Check (in the Utility menu) any time you want to confirm it's actually saving. Still, because it's local to the device, a regular backup is the real safety net — back it up after building your roster and after every game.
I'm switching to a new phone/tablet — how do I bring my team over?
Save a backup on the old device, then restore that backup file on the new one.
I forgot my password.
Contact support at snapcountsupport@gmail.com. A new temporary password will be sent, but not instantly — please allow up to 7 business days.
Something looks wrong with my stats.
Check the Minimum snaps and Players on field settings on the Stats screen first — they affect the math. If it still looks off, run Self-Check from the Utility menu, which re-checks the math and your lineups for problems.
My membership lapsed — did I lose my data?
No. Your roster and game history stay on your device either way. A lapsed membership affects what the app lets you do (see Plans & Account Status above), not your saved data.
